Hue, DMZ Quang Tri
In the Hue to DMZ Tour by private car, we will go to visit all the highlight attractions in the Vietnam DMZ (Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone) or DMZ. DMZ Vietnam is a demilitarized zone along the two banks of the Ben Hai River. It was established on July 21, 1954, under the Geneva Agreement on Indochina in 1954, with the initial purpose of being a temporary military demarcation line to prevent the gathering area between the forces of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on the one hand with the French army and allied forces.
In principle, this demilitarized zone is 1.6 km (one mile) wide on each side from the banks of the Ben Hai River, starting from the Vietnam-Laos border to the East Sea coast. It is expected that the temporary demarcation line will be removed after the general election two years later. However, it actually became a border dividing Vietnam during the war.
On July 2, 1976, the National Assembly of Vietnam officially abolished the existence of the demilitarized zone at the 17th parallel when establishing the Socialist Republic of Vietnam under the absolute leadership of Vietnam’s Communist Party.

The catholic believers trusted that the Virgin Mary appeared in this area in 1798. So a church has been built near three banyan trees, where they believe that Our Lady has appeared. This is one of three Catholic pilgrimage centers recognized by the Vietnamese government today.
The Rockpile– Rockpile Hill is one of the US military bases, used as a watchtower to observe the activities of the Vietnam People’s Army in the demilitarized zone in Quang Tri from 1966 to 1968.
Dakrong Bridge– during the war, Dakrong Bridge was an iron bridge and an important transport route for the southern battlefield. After 1975, with the help of Cuba, a suspension bridge 100 m long, 6 m wide was built to replace the old iron bridge. However, the suspension bridge collapsed in 1999. After that, the government rebuilt a cable-stayed bridge as it is today.
Hien Luong Bridge- Ben Hai River is the center of the historical cluster of Hien Luong – Ben Hai River, which is ranked as a special national relic of Vietnam. The bridge is located right on the 17th parallel, spanning the Ben Hai River; the section flows through Hien Luong village, Vinh Thanh commune, Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province, central Vietnam.
During the Vietnam War for 21 years, from 1954 to 1975, Hien Luong Bridge was the boundary dividing Vietnam into two regions: the North was managed by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and the South was controlled by the Government of the Republic of Vietnam.
Khe Sanh Combat Base (upon request +25USD) is the biggest Marine Base Camp in DMZ Vietnam. Khe Sanh Combat Base (also known as Ta Con Airbase) was a USA Marine Corps outpost south of the Vietnamese Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) used during the Vietnam war. Nowadays, there are a lot of bunkers, tanks, fighter aircraft, and a small museum displaying historical images and weapons in this combat base.
